Her Breakthrough
Joy Ann Santos is a co-developer of the GenAmplify™ COVID-19 rRT-PCR Detection Kit – a test kit for detecting positive cases of coronavirus. It has become a helpful innovation due to the constant increase of coronavirus cases in the Philippines. Their team, spearheaded by Dr. Raul V. Destura, started working on the kit in January 2020 and spent long days in the laboratory studying and analyzing the SARS-COV-2 genome sequence in order to develop the said tool.
Her Legacy
Her contributions to addressing the COVID-19 outbreak in the Philippines, especially the COVID-19 detection kit, have helped many frontliners and healthcare workers. She has made various researches on pathogens that have affected the country. Aside from the analysis of the coronavirus, she has also researched and published research articles about human adenoviruses and other viruses like the dengue virus.
